  BIOGRAPHY

Steven Christopher Thompson (b. 1967, Greenville, SC) American Artist

After receiving undergraduate degrees in Literature, Classical Languages and Art from the College of Charleston (Charleston, SC) in 1991, Thompson received an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Georgia (Athens,GA) in 1995.  In 1999, Thompson received an MFA in Sculpture and Mixed Media from the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA).

Thompson taught academic and studio courses at the University of Georgia from 2001-2006, including a term at the University’s Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy.  In 2008, Thompson taught a graduate seminar in special topics at Parsons School of Art and Design, The New School (New York, NY).

Since his debut solo show in New York in 2004 at Kenny Schachter's West Village gallery, conTEMPorary, Thompson has developed a reputation as a quixotic and visionary artist, a style by turns intricately detailed and obsessive, devotional and esoteric.  Thompson's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and venues in the US and abroad, including The Armory International Exhibition and Miami/Basel with Rove, The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, Kate Werble Gallery, and The Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, among others.

Currently, Thompson is represented by English Kills Gallery in Brooklyn and teaches a seminar course at The Oracle Club, a salon for artists and writers in Long Island City, Queens.

Thompson is a member in good standing of the Fluorescent Mineral Society.
